Manchester City are confident that Micah Richards is happy at the club and will sign a new contract despite the right-back wanting assurances about regular playing time. Richards, who has two years left on his deal, has been told by Manuel Pellegrini that he is an important part of the new manager's plans.

Richards believes he deserves a pay rise on his earnings of around £65,000 a week. While there is reported interest from Internazionale, the defender would prefer not to play abroad at this stage of his career.

Joleon Lescott, who has a year left on his contract, has been told he does have a future at City but Gareth Barry, who also has only 12 months left on his contract, may well depart as Fernandinho's £30m arrival means his first-team chances will be limited. Tottenham have confirmed the signing of Paulinho from Corinthians. The 24-year-old midfielder was a regular for Brazil during their Confederations Cup campaign that culminated in a 3-0 win over Spain. Neither the fee nor length of contract has been disclosed.

Sunderland and AZ Alkmaar have reached agreement over a deal for Jozy Altidore. The Dutch side have accepted an improved offer for the 23-year-old USA striker and Paolo Di Canio's side will now attempt to agree personal terms. The goalkeeper Brad Guzan has signed a new deal with Aston Villa that ties the 28-year-old to the club until 2017. PA

Six men, including at least three Crewe players, have been arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault in Redruth while the League One club had been on a pre-season training camp in Cornwall. The club later confirmed the arrests. PA
